The Coronavirus has essentially shut most of the world down. However, as time passes we are seeing the restrictions being eased around the country and world. Germany was one of the first places to ease restrictions and in doing so has reopened soccer. The future of soccer was unclear due to countries like Holland and France cancelling their season. Germany has now become the first major European soccer league to resume play. The Bundesliga is set to start on Saturday, May 16.
Spain, Italy, and England are slowly beginning to come back as well. These countries can monitor the Bundesliga and see if they can also start to return. One thing is for sure, the world will be watching Germany this weekend. Not only, soccer fans and leagues, organizations like the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, MLS, etc. will be interested to see how successful the Bundesliga is in its return. The Bundesliga coming back is a great first step in soccer’s gradual return. However, there will be no fans and a lot of new rules in place. I believe that at this point just being able to watch the matches on television will provide joy and hope to people worldwide.
Clubs across Spain are starting to head back to the training grounds.
I have been doing podcasts about soccer and how the sport has been impacted by Covid-19. The first two podcasts were about the heavy financial impact that this pandemic has had on clubs and how major European leagues like Ligue 1 and Eredivisie were shut down. This episode is much more positive and focuses on the heavily anticipated Bundesliga return.
Here it is!
Overall, this news of the Bundesliga returning has made soccer fans optimistic that leagues in England, Spain, and Italy will come back too. Although things will look a lot different on the pitch, it is for the greater good. The precautionary measures being taken are to protect both the fans and players/staff. At this time, being safe and healthy must remain our priority. We can remain safe while being able to watch one of soccer’s top leagues. Sounds good to me!
